Pedestal Prongs - Saturday
Saturday, January 26th 9-6pm
Spend the day learning all about prongs! In the morning we'll work specifically with a round, oval or pear/tear drop shaped cabochon and build the framework needed to support your stone for a pendant or ring. In the afternoon we'll focus on building the same type of setting but with variations for seating and setting a round faceted stone. This class is structured for those that want to learn the techniques and aren't as concerned with completing each piece.
Demonstrations include fabrication techniques, tips and tricks for soldering prongs to your framework, building a bail for your piece and trouble shooting issues such as fitting, forming and soldering, as well as setting your stones so they are secure.
This class is not for the beginner. Students should have MS2 or equivalent, be comfortable with studio safety procedures as well as soldering with a jewelers torch. Prereq: MS2 and/or equivalent.
Bring a bag lunch. Cancellations with less than 72 hours will not be credited or refunded. Bring your own stones as stated above or purchase inexpensive practice stones from us, sterling materials are extra and may be purchased as needed or email us for a list of suggested materials.
