Mondays in January 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th, 6-9pm
Ages 16+ to Adult, Beginners Wanted! Are you ready to start learning the traditional set of skills that all jewelers and silversmiths must possess before pursuing a career in the jewelry industry? Whether you want to be a bench jeweler for a fine jewelry store or create your own line of work for resale, a solid foundation of the tools, processes, as well as studio safety is a must!
In this 4-week course you will first be introduced to the basics beginning with the saw frame. Learn how to load your sawblades correctly, how to pierce metal and cut out shapes. Once you're comfortable with the saw we'll move on to making a pair of earrings and/or pendant using the piercing and sawing process.
A variety of techniques will be demonstrated along the way with ideas for adding dimension to your pieces. Choose one or more of these methods and we will work one-on-one throughout the course to make your designs come to life. We will also demonstrate how to make your own findings such as ear wires, bails and clasps.
Several soldering techniques will be covered including sweat soldering. We will discuss which solder to use when and why, as well as soldering safety. Throughout the course you will learn about the finishing processes including filing, sanding and polishing.
*In the Event of a Snow-Emergency a make-up session will be held on Tuesday, Jan 29th, 6-9pm.
