    Learn to construct a simple, functional hinge that will make your jewelry move, open and close, or swing.  Students explore the basic foundations for constructing a straight hinge, plus learn to plan for appropriate scaled tubing and a corresponding hinge pin.  Emphasis will be on designing and fabricating for a pair of earrings or a removable pendant for a chain.  Students will be encouraged to complete a project or sample, as soldering a hinge requires accuracy to make it work properly. 

    This class covers fitting, preparing knuckles, different soldering options, assembling and finishing.  Come and investigate the mechanics of a good hinge system! 

    Materials will be available to for you to purchase on an as needed basis OR plan ahead and bring your own! This class is for the advanced beginner.

    Biography: Linda Seebauer Hansen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts form the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in 1994, and Master of Fine Arts degree in metalsmithing from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1997. After completing her graduate degree she was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the Wisconsin State Arts Board and became a member of MetalPeople Studio in Madison, WI. She was a visiting instructor at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater and Madison, and Milwaukee Area Technical College. In 2004, she accepted a position as Art Metals Department Head at the Worcester Center for Crafts, MA, and received the Barrett Morgan Award for exemplary leadership and teaching. In 2007, she moved to Minnesota to pursue directing a comprehensive education program for a Minneapolis based non-profit arts organization. In 2014, she was the recipient of a scholarship to attend the Women’s Art Institute (WAI) at St. Catherine’s University, and in 2015 she was invited back as a Teaching Assistant. Also in 2015, she completed a Winter Residency and was selected for a Summer Studio Assistantship at the Penland School of Crafts, NC.
