Fri, Sat & Sun, January 11th, 12th and 13th, 10-5pm
Join us for our new Intensive Metalsmithing 2, Weekend Warrior style! The best bang for your buck!
On the first day you will create a textured sterling silver ring with a tube set CZ. You will be introduced to several new fabrication and soldering techniques as you prepare a pre-made bezel for your ring and solder it in place. Learn about stone setting and set a faceted CZ into your new ring. We'll then explore pre-made bezel cups for cabochons and create a pair of sterling silver post or dangle earrings.
The second day you will jump into making your own bezel set ring or pendant from scratch. Students will learn various soldering techniques including how to solder fine silver, embellishing around the bezel, and what solder to use when and why. You'll learn how to size and make an open ring shank and solder all the pieces together. Finally, we'll discuss stone setting and the many issues that can arise before you set your own cabochon stone.
The third day will be a work day during our regularly scheduled Open Studio hours. You may need this time to continue working on your projects or you'll be ready to start something new of your own design using your newly acquired skills. Your instructor will be available to you throughout the day to assist and answer questions.
In this class students will enhance the skills they've already learned in MS1 (or equivalent) and continue to learn additional methods for sizing, soldering and stone setting. We want to teach you the skills, as well as the tips and tricks in between, so you can be successful each and every time.
Included in your class fee: supplies including solder, fuel, flux as well as all finishing supplies such as sand paper, sanding discs, and polishing burs. The kit fee is extra and will be payable on the 2nd day of class. Average material fee is $75 and includes all the sterling metal materials you will need for the class projects; pricing is subject to change. Additional materials can be purchased at the studio as needed. All tools are provided for the class.
Bring a bag lunch, notebook and pen AND come ready to learn and have fun!
